Vijayawada: Lepakshi Crafts Bazar, a major promotional programme to help the craftsmen to improve their livelihood through increased sales of their handmade arts and crafts, began at Bapu Museum here on Friday. The exhibition-cum-sale will be open till July 16. Mukesh Kumar Meena, secretary to Tourism and Culture, Govt of AP, inaugurated the expo.

The Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, the AP Tourism Authority and the International Institute for the Inclusive Museum, Australia, are jointly organising the expo. It will be open from 11 am to 9 pm.

Major crafts of our State like Etikoppaka toys, Kondapally toys, Kalamkari block prints & Machilipatnam gold covering jewellery, wood carvings, handloom saris and dress material produced by handloom weavers/ societies besides wall panels and woodcarvings from Tirupati, hand paintings of Sri Kalahasti,

leather puppets and lamp shades of Nimmalakunta, artificial jewellery, metal castings, pottery from Madanapally, handmade carpets from Eluru and some prominent crafts in bell metal, Kosa, Maheswari saris from Mandhya Pradesh, Bhagalpur silks from Bihar are in display. Craftspersons from other states are also participating in the event.

Traditional silk and cotton saris and dress material, suit sets & saris from Gadwal, Pochampally (Ikat), Uppada, Narayanpet, Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri are the exclusive range available at the expo, the organisers said.
