In response to the call given by the government for achieving ‘Haritandhra Pradesh’, the NSS units of St Joseph College for Women organised a massive plantation drive on the college premises as part of ‘Vanam Manam’ on Friday.

Visakhapatnam: In response to the call given by the government for achieving ‘Haritandhra Pradesh’, the NSS units of St Joseph College for Women organised a massive plantation drive on the college premises as part of ‘Vanam Manam’ on Friday.

Under the supervision of NSS Programme Officers K Manikya Kumari and Ch Annapurna, a large number of students, faculty and non-teaching staff took out a rally holding the plants and placards.

Later, correspondent of the college Dr Sister Veronica inaugurated the plantation drive by planting a sapling followed by principal Sister Shyji and others.

Department of Forests and Department of Social Forestry, Andhra Pradesh, Visakha[patnam provided more than 100 saplings of timber, fruit, rose wood, red sanders, tebubia, badam, guava, Indian goose berry, yegisa, yepi and maddi.

Speaking to students, Manikya Kumari said that in the wake of climate change and its impact on ecosystem, every individual should take up the responsibility towards environmental protection and plantation.

All the departments, clubs and associations of the college-Green Globe Nature Club, Eco Club, Biology Association, Eco Buzz, Commerce Association, Humanities Association, Literary Club, Shrishti Club, Sports Department were involved in the programme.
