Eluru: Eluru one-town police arrested a thief and recovered Rs.4 lakh cash and 15 sovereigns of gold ornaments on Saturday.
Addressing the media at one-town police station on Saturday evening, the Circle Inspector N Rajasekhar said that Sheikh Nagoor Meeravali, a mason by profession and resident of Pasivedala in Kovvuru mandal with a view to get income easily began committing thefts by cheating the public.

He used to go to various banks and observe the depositors who came to the banks. He, with his friendly disposition managed to convince his victims that he will complete the financial matters in the bank. Later he used to enter into the bank and act like he was speaking with officials and filling the applications.

Then he would ask the victims to bring the photocopies of the identity card after taking money from them. When the victims went to get the work done, he used to escape from the place, CI Rajasekhar said.
