Visakhapatnam: For the first time in the country, a new multipurpose health and party drink ‘cajoose’ (cashew apple juice) is going to flood the markets very soon, according to Gitam University biotechnology professor Khasim Beebi Shaik.

The professor, after four-and-a-half years of marathon research and experiments, has been successful in producing the cajoose soft drink.

It is ready to hit the markets at a cheaper price. Initially, a 200 ml juice concentrate that could be mixed with a litre of water to consume is expected to cost only Rs 10.

Cashew Apple is being cultivated in 30,000 acres in the north Andhra Region and the farmers after collecting the nut from the fruit leave it as waste.

Finding high nutrients in the fruit, Khasim Beebi Shaik has started experiments and found that there are several medicinal values in the fruit.

She found that a nutritious cool drink could be made from the pulp and started working in the direction of producing a soft drink at a cheaper cost.

After passing through several bottlenecks, the professor applied to the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) for licence to produce the drink commercially.

The FSSAI has issued the licence bearing the number: 20114050001182. "Yes. All necessary approvals have been obtained and we are now launching commercial production.

My student and also associate in the research Uma Thalasila is going launching the plant," Khasim Beebi Shaik told The Hans India.

Cajoose juice provides instant energy and makes the body feel refreshed, energetic and strong, she said, adding that the drink helps boost immunity and builds resistance against infections and diseases.
