Addanki: The Addanki town in Prakasam district was gripped with tension and the streets were overcrowded with police as the supporters of MLA Gottipati Ravi Kumar and MLC Karanam Balaram arranged foundation stones for inaugurating the same development work.

The government sanctioned Rs. 11.4 lakhs for the construction of a cement concrete road between 14th and 17th ward of Addanki Nagar Panchayat from the Government Hospital to Kattakindapalem through Sivalayam. Taking credit for sanction of funds, the rival groups wanted to lay the foundation for it by their leaders.

As per protocol, the Nagar Panchayat officials arranged a foundation stone in the name of local MLA Gottipati Ravi Kumar and formally invited him to the inauguration of the same on Saturday.

Feeling let down, the supporters of the Karanam Balaram arranged another foundation stone on Friday night, which triggered tension among locals and police department.

Soon after, the police department took control of the area and put barricades barring entry of the others except the residents to the foundation stone area.

Amid tight security, the MLA Gottipati Ravi Kumar reached the spot and inaugurated the foundation stone around 10.30AM.

He said, “The local women complained about the bad shape of the road here and demanded the construction of a new one. I spoke to the officials for the road and am now laying the foundation for the same.

I do not bother about the people who want to stop development in my constituency. It is for the party and the chief minister to respond to them.”

After the MLA left the place, the Nagar Panchayat Chairman Parimi Dayamani inaugurated the foundation stone arranged by the Karanam Balaram supporters, while the public and police heaved a sigh of relief for the day.
