Amaravati: Despite inadequate arrangements, the YSR Congress plenary witnessed overwhelming support from rank and file of the party.

The two-day party plenary which concluded on Sunday managed to showcase its strength to public despite some legislators defecting to the ruling party.

Though there were some lapses in providing facilities, the party successfully conducted the first plenary in Amaravati capital location where the ruling Telugu Desam Party has a stronghold.

The top leadership of YSRCP including its president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and his family members including his mother Y S Vijayamma and sister Sharmila did not address the plenary on the first day, barring a brief speech by the party chief. The rank and file of party were disappointed from speeches of other leaders.

The plenary raised debate among the party workers over the strength of the party and the organisational skills of its cadre.
Majority of leaders were confined to criticising Telugu Desam party and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu or praising Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Jaganmohan Reddy.

However, the top leaders addressed the plenary on the second day to motivate the cadre. The meeting did not discuss various important issues in detail though they were mentioned in agenda. The speeches of leaders mainly focused on lavishing praises on former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

On the other hand, the YSR Congress leadership provided facilities like food and sitting space for 10,000 people. But the management committees faced problems as an increased gathering assembled at the venue.

Moreover, the lack of experience of cadre to conduct such mega meetings was also visible. The management committees could not regulate crowd by providing proper entry points. Some of the party activists did not get breakfast or meals totally for two days at the venue. There was no sufficient sitting space and they were forced to move outside the venue.

One Appala Naidu who belongs to Srikakulam, said that on the first day in the plenary, he could not have breakfast and lunch. Speaking to The Hans India, he said that he had taken his meals in a hotel on Saturday night.

Several other workers also faced a similar experience. They opined that the party leaders should be trained to improve their organisational skills and further strengthen cadre at grass root level. Party activists discussed the issue in their internal meetings.
