Nellore: Former Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan questioned why the state government had not allocated 200 acres of land to Dugarajapatnam Port even though the Supreme Court directed the central government to start works of Port.

Addressing the media here on Monday, the Congress leader said, “It is not an appeal for the project but a right through an Act which the Supreme Court had also recognised.” He explained that the UPA government had incorporated the Port issue in the Reorganisation Act on page 32 after state bifurcation.

Chinta Mohan alleged that the project has deliberately been delayed due to vested interests and for the benefit of a few people. RITES had surveyed and prepared DPR and subsequently central cabinet and the President of India have also approved the proposal

“Recently, the Supreme Court also asked the central government why the Port works were being delayed. Still, there was no response and the state government also failed to allocate 200 acres for the Port for the last three years,” the Congress leader said. He also criticised national-level leaders of Nellore district for keeping mum on the project even though they talk about international politics disregarding interests of local people.

He asked what interests the state government has for abandoning development of backward region of Nellore district while articulating about overall development of the state. He said there was clear evidence to prove that both central and state governments have hidden agenda of supporting their own people and preventing the project for last three years.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi always talks about corruption-free India and what action he has taken while the state government delaying the project which has to be completed by 2018 where huge corruption is involved,” asked the former MP.

He also demanded for completion of NTPC-BHEL project at Mannavaram in Srikalahasti mandal, which was being inordinately delayed. He said there has been no progress in the works of most sought after Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line that was aimed to develop upland mandals of Nellore district.
