Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad has stayed the holding of APNGOs general body meeting scheduled to take place on July 15 to decide on its bifurcation.

Justice B Shivasahankar Rao suspended the notice issued by Hyderabad District Registrar of Cooperative Societies on June 28 calling for the general body meeting. He ordered no action must be taken in this regard until further orders.

The judge gave this direction on Wednesday, while hearing a writ petition moved by president of APNGOs Ashok Babu, challenging the notice issued by the District Registrar.

Appearing for the petitioner, counsel N Mahendranath Reddy informed the judge that the District Registrar had issued notice last year itself to hold the meeting in March, but it was contested by the organisation on the ground that before bifurcation certain objections raised by them needed to be resolved.

They had approached the High Court then and it had passed orders. Now suddenly the District Registrar had issued the impugned notice disregarding the orders of the High Court.

He also informed the judge that the Telangana State government had taken back the 189 acres allotted to the Association by the earlier united Andhra Pradesh government.

This action by Telangana State government was challenged in the High Court and it had stayed the resumption of the land and the matter is still pending. In such circumstances, to hold the general body meeting now would vitiate the situation, he argued.

Telangana Special Government Pleader Sharat Kumar underlined the need to bifurcate the organisation since Telangana State has been formed. He charged that certain elements are trying to run the organisation from Amaravathi itself.

The judge observed that it is not proper to hold the general body meeting without clarity on the land issue. Suspending the notice issued by the District Registrar, he directed the respondents to file their counter affidavits and posted the matter to August 8.
