Call to take up special sanitation drive in West Godavari

About 33 per cent of people expressed their dissatisfaction over the poor maintenance of drainage system in the villages, he said.Bhaskar said the sanitary problem has been witnessed in villages due to negligence of panchayat officials. He said the drains were overflowing in the villages following not removal of silt.
He directed the officials to take up special drive for the maintenance of sanitation failing which epidemics will spread in villages. He also warned officials to be cautious as the chances of spread of epidemics and other diseases are comparatively high during rainy season. He directed the District Panchayat Officer Sudhakar to suspend Eluru EORD Durga Devi for her negligence in maintaining the dumping yards.
In Eluru division, out of 23 dumping yards that have been sanctioned, only one yard was constructed over the last eight months, he said. Even after the district collector directed to take up construction of other dumping yards three weeks back, Durga Devi neglected in completing the works.
He expressed anger over the answers of EORDs to say that labour was not available for the dumping yard's construction. He directed the officials to complete the construction of at least half of the dumping yards targeted in the mandals or otherwise, action would be initiated against the panchayat officials.District Panchayat Officer K Sudhakar and divisional panchayat officials participated in the meeting.
