Kakinada: Food poisoning is suspected to be the reason behind 30 girl student falling sick in JNTU-K Campus College on Thursday night. It is said that food poisoning caused by non vegetarian food served in campus hostel led to the incident.According to inmates of the hostel Nagavali, 30 students fell sick after consuming egg fried rice served in lunch on Thursday.

Of them, 21 complained of fever and others stomach ache and loose motions by 4 pm. Hostel inmates Sowjanya , Priyanka and others revealed that those who consumed non-vegetarian food were affected while those ate vegetarian food were not.
All the affected girls were treated by university medical officer Dr. S Akhila in the campus hospital .

Dr. Akhila on Friday said that all the admitted students were prescribed three-day course of medicine. “All are well and attended to classes on Friday as usual,” the medical officer said.

Both Dr Akhila and campus college principal Prof. G V R Prasada Raju while confirming the food poisoning, however, offered different reasons for the sickness such as consumption of outside food by girl students as they are in the habit of eating roadside food. They ruled out any food poisoning in hostel.

Dr Akhila pointed out that all the remaining 635 inmates are unaffected. Some of the girls who took ill on Thursday left for their homes on Friday. The exact number of students who left for homes could not be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Kakinada city MLA V Venkateswara Rao visited the university campus on Friday afternoon and interacted with the inmates of Nagavali hostel. He asked the college authorities to take all the precautions to avert reoccurrence such incidents in future.
