Vijayawada: Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM) secretary Rashmi Samaram on Thursday called upon the youth to make efforts to stand on their feet and become self-reliant in life.

Speaking at an interactive meeting held jointly by Department of Women and Child Development Child Development and Vasavya Mahila Mandali with NGOs and stake holders (trafficking rescued organisations) at the VMM office here on Thursday, Rashmi Samaram exhorted the youth not to addict to bad habits.

She said that as per the government order, the age limit for skill development and training was 18 years. She said that girls, who discontinued their education should be given skill development training. If the government lifts the age limit for skill development and training it would be useful for adolescent girls, she pointed out.

National Commissioner for Women, Government of India, Rekha Sarma spoke on how to prevent the trafficking cases through the information from rescued women.

She said more awareness programmes should be held to educate women and to prevent trafficking. Former MP Chennupati Vidya said that women trafficking should be prevented with collective efforts of police, NGOs and Mahila Mitra.State Women Commission member Rajya Lakshmi, Ramadevi, Krishna Kumari, and other NGOs were present.
