Visakhapatnam: A Start-Up company launched bicycles rental project in the city on Thursday in a bid to curb pollution and promote fitness.

Inaugurating the project, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the project would be taken up under PPP mode. Bicycle stands would be established at major junctions in the city from where residents will be able to rent a bicycle. They can return the bicycle at any stand so that they do not need to come back to the place where they hired it, the Minster said.

He said controlling pollution became a huge challenge and bicycle project was a good initiative which is not only eco-friendly but also improve fitness levels. Some cities have already taken up such initiative, the Minister said.

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is already providing bicycles free of cost to people visiting beach in the morning hours. The bicycles are issued from GVMC Aqua Complex, located on the beach.
