On the instructions of Corporation Commissioner C Hari Kiran, the town planning officials are pulling down the illegal constructions in the city for the last three days.

Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) is continuing demolition of unauthorised buildings in the temple city. Several buildings were constructed here without getting the approval from the town planning department. On the instructions of Corporation Commissioner C Hari Kiran, the town planning officials are pulling down the illegal constructions in the city for the last three days.

Owners of the unauthorised structures are worried with the drive taken up by the civic body. So far, eight buildings were demolished by the town planning staff and notices were served to 42 building owners. It is learnt that building owners are exerting pressure on the officials through the ruling TDP leaders or manhandling workers.

Few building owners have alleged that town planning officials are demolishing their buildings for bribe. On Friday, workers employed by town planning staff have demolished the under-construction buildings in the city. In the last 3 days, illegal structures were demolished at Jaya Nagar, Auto Nagar, Chinthala Chenu, Ravindra Nagar under MCT limits.

The town planning wing employed manual workers to demolish buildings in the absence of latest equipment with them. About 80 per cent of buildings were razed by workers and 20 per cent using JCBs and drillers. The MCT’s town planning department is facing shortage of staff as 6 building inspectors and 6 chainman posts are lying vacant.

Officials concerned are carrying out demolition drive with only three supervisors. Speaking to The Hans India, Assistant City Planner-2 N Balasubramanyam said that the commissioner himself identifying illegal buildings during morning hour inspections. He is informing us to demolish illegal constructions, he added.

He stated that the government has brought reforms in giving approvals to new building. He urged city residents to get building approval within 2 days by submitting all the required documents.
