Vijayawada: City Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner J Nivas on Friday jointly inaugurated a semi-underground dumper bin at the Andhra Loyola College in the city.

The bins were brought from Tamil Nadu and the garbage would be dumped in poly propylene bags which are installed in the bins.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sridhar said separate bins were arranged for dry and wet garbage and the bins had a capacity of 1.5 tonnes. He hoped that the dumper bins would help in maintaining the city clean and green.

About Rs15 lakh was spent for arranging the bins, he said. An alarm sound will come when the bin was filled with garbage and then the VMC staff would shift the bags to dumping yard, he added.

He suggested people not to dump the garbage on road. He informed the VMC would display the names of those who come forward to donate funds for arranging smart dumper bins.
