Minister for Mines and Geoplogy RVSK Ranga Rao, Collector Vivek Yadav encouraged the idea and started plant bank on the premises of Collectorate to supply saplings to public free of cost.

Vizianagaram: The district administration is implementing innovative strategy to enhance greenery and grow more trees in Vizianagaram. Minister for Mines and Geoplogy RVSK Ranga Rao, Collector Vivek Yadav encouraged the idea and started plant bank on the premises of Collectorate to supply saplings to public free of cost.

The government is also according top priority to plant more saplings and to protect environment, minimise pollution and make the state green. Even the government is also implementing Vanam-Manam programme and encouraging the public to plant more saplings in their colonies and lands, farms.

Now the forest department in Vizianagaram has started a Plant Bank to supply more than 15 types of saplings to the public. Anybody can get two saplings from the Plan Bbank by submitting their Aadhaar card.

The forest department is running a nursery at Phoolbhagh, which is five km away from Vizianagaram, and the public are not interested to go there to get the saplings.

Hence, the forest employees are maintaining Plant Bank here for the convenience of the people. Divisional forest officer K Venugopal said: “We have been supplying the plants at the bank for the past few days. Guava and gooseberry are the common saplings we can get everywhere. But, we are giving some medicinal plants here to create health awareness among the public.”
