After the resignation of Malladi Vishnu as the president of the City Congress Committee recently, the PCC chief appointed Akula Srinivas as the City Congress president. Akula assumed the charge in the presence several hundred Congress party workers and leaders. Senior leaders K V P Ramachandra Rao and others attended the oath taking ceremony.

Earlier, the Congress leaders, including Raghuveera Reddy, K V P Ramachandra Rao, former minister S Sailajanath, Akula Srinivas and other paid rich tributes to the departed Congress leaders. Later, the cadres took out a rally to I V Palace where the oath taking ceremony was organised by the City Congress Committee.

Akula Srinivas is one of the senior Congress leaders in the city and contested during the 2014 Assembly elections from Vijayawada West Assembly constituency. He is one of the most loyal Congressmen in the city and has been associated with the party for over two decades. Akula Srinivas thanked PCC Chief Raghuveera Reddy and others leaders for appointing him as the City Chief. He said he would fulfil the responsibilities entrusted by the party leadership.
