Eluru: Chintalapudi Sub Inspector Saida Nayak and his wife died in a road accident when the car they were travelling rammed into a tree near Sitammacheruvu village in Lingapalem Mandal of West Godavari district on Saturday morning.

According to police, Saida Nayak (30), Sub Inspector, Chintalapudi, his wife Shanthi (25) and 17-month-old daughter Princy started at Chintalapudi to go over to Eluru this morning. Saida Nayak was coming to Eluru to attend SP office on his work and his wife accompanied him to Eluru for medical check-up along with their daughter. When the car reached Sitamma Cheruvu area in Lingapalem Mandal, Saida Nayak who was driving the vehicle lost control and rammed into a tree on the road margin.

In this incident, Nayak died on the spot. His wife Shanthi received grave injuries and the child escaped with minor injuries. Local people immediately informed the incident to the police, who in turn reached the spot and sent the seriously injured Shanti and her child to Eluru Government Hospital in 108 Ambulance. Shanthi was shifted to Eluru ASRAM Hospital from Eluru Government hospital. While undergoing treatment in the hospital, Shanti succumbed to injuries.

Saida Nayak, a 2012 batch Sub Inspector hailed from Ibrahimpatnam in Krishna District, while his wife Shanthi was from Military Madhavaram village in Pentapadu Mandal of West Godavari district. They were married three years back. He worked at Buttayagudem in West Godavari at his first posting and was later transferred to Special Branch Eluru. A year back he was transferred to Chintalapudi.

After coming to know about the death of the Sub Inspector, District SP M Ravi Prakash immediately returned to Eluru from Polavaram and reached Government Hospital. Additional SP V Ratna, Special Branch DSP Bhaskar Rao, Jangareddigudem DSP J Venkatrao and Nayak’s batch mates reached the Government hospital.

They expressed their grief over the sad incident and recollected his services. Speaking on the occasion SP Ravi Prakash assured all benefits to the bereaved family members.

It was saddening to see the 17-month old girl alone at the Government hospital following the deaths of her parents in the span of hours. She was crying out for her mother at the Government hospital until her parents’ relatives reached the hospital. The post-mortem of the bodies will be conducted on Sunday, police added.
