Guntur: The National Highways Authority of India is likely to call fresh tenders for executing Vijayawada West Bypass Road works, if infrastructure company bagged the contract fails to start the work by July 31. After that the NHAI will cancel the tenders’ allotment and call fresh tenders for executing the work.

The infrastructure company is not starting the work for the last five years. The NHAI aims to reduce traffic on NH -5 between Kaza and Pedavutapalli near Gannavaram in Krishna district and it has taken up the project under Vijayawada -Gundugolanu Project.

The NHAI has already started Throvagunta- Kattipudi highway widening works to reduce traffic on the NH-5 between Ongole and Rajahmundry. If Vijayawada West Bypass Road is laid, it will reduce the traffic between Kaza to Pedavutapalli on the NH-5.

The proposed Vijayawada Bypass Road starts from Kaza in Guntur district and passes through Tadapalli, Venkatapalem villages in Guntur district and it will be connected to NH-5 at Pedavutapalli near Gannavaram in Krishna district and passes through Nunna and Mustabad.

According to NHAI sources, at present every day over lakh vehicles are passing through Kanakadurga Varadhi and there is need to reduce traffic problem on the NH-5 near Vijayawada. After Secretariat was constructed at Velagapudi, traffic between Vijayawada and Velagapudi also increased. With several universities lined up to Amaravati and some state government offices have been shifted to Mangalagiri, the NHAI decided to call fresh tenders for Vijayawada West Bypass Road works.
