Vizianagaram: The flood situation is under control on the banks of River Nagavali in the district on Monday. But several roads on the border with Odisha have been damaged due to incessant rains and the resultant deluge.

District collector Vivek Yadav visited the damaged roads near Kuneeru of Komarada mandal in the district to assess the extent of the damage to the roads and inspected the damaged houses too. He said that the roads near to Naagavali in Komarada, Garugubilli and Jiyyammavalasa mandals of Parvatipuram agency were flooded by the inflows into the river.

He told the reporters that the water flow near Totapalli bridge was steady. In several villages, the flood water decreased and people were able to move. He assured that the damaged roads will be repaired on a war footing.

According to Thotapalli reservoir deputy superintending engineer D Tirumala Rao, the flood in Naagavali had decreased and as of Monday morning, the inflow was 12,500 cusecs and outflow was 10,000 cusecs. Only four gates were kept open and the remaining four gates were closed after the flood from the upper riparian region had come down.

However, transportation near and around Kuneeru was stopped by officials as mud was deposited on the roads due to flood water.

Due to traffic halt, vehicles were stranded over 10 km on the road. Officials were confident that the mud will be cleared soon and the vehicular traffic will be resumed soon.
