Ongole: It is high time for the establishment of the Physiotherapy Council in the India on similar lines with the medical, pharma and nursing councils, said Dr Raj Vimal Gurrala, president of Prakasam District Physiotherapists’ Association.

The association organised a one-day hunger protest on Monday at the district collectorate in solidarity with the hunger strike by Dr Umasankar Mohanty, president of Indian Association of Physiotherapists with the demand of establishment of physiotherapy council. Raj Vimal said, “There are about 450 colleges in India and about 65,000 physiotherapists are waiting for registrations in the country. Physiotherapy is gaining prominence in Indian medical field.

We are being instrumental in the treatment of children to elderly people. We are also being utilised in the treatment of mentally and physically disordered and during the heart and orthopedic surgeries. We demand immediate establishment of Physiotherapy Council and recruitment of physiotherapists in the government hospitals and PHCs.”
