Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), which is located between the cities of Vijayawada and Guntur, is all set become a hub of sports and games activities  owing to the development of infrastructure facilities by the State Government at a cost of nearly Rs.30 crore.

A newly laid Blue Granule Synthetic track is a special attraction and will be useful to host national and international events in the future. The eight lane track, warm up track and sports hostel facility for lodging 200 players, coaches and managers will be an added advantage.

This track has been laid with international standards so that international events can be organised at ANU. Till the construction of sports village in the new capital Amaravati, ANU will play a vital role in conducting sporting events and imparting training to youngsters.

For the first time in the state, a national senior athletic championship is being conducted on the synthetic track. According to Y Kishore, Dean, Physical education department, ANU, the synthetic track will enhance the confidence of the athletes. He felt practice on synthetic tracks will be always helpful because the players have to compete on such tracks at the national and international events, he opined.

Visiting players and coaches feel that the Ground needs a gallery so that the audience can comfortably sit and watch the events being held in the grounds. According to sources the Government is planning to construct a gallery resembling LB Stadium in Hyderabad.

According to information, a meeting was conducted in this regard and the construction of a gallery was discussed. Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) officials and ANU authorities participated in that meeting and elaborate discussion were held, sources said.
