Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad on Tuesday issued notices to four AP ministers to reply to the issues raised in a writ petition contending that their appointment as ministers after defecting to the ruling party is illegal.

The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T Rajani gave this direction while hearing a PIL filed by T Shivaprasad Reddy.

The petitioner complained that Akhila Priya, Amarnath Reddy, Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao and Adinrayana Reddy were elected MLAs on the YSRCP tickets.

After getting elected to the Assembly, they defected to the ruling Telugu Desam Party and were rewarded with Cabinet berths. The complaints against them under the Anti-Defection law are still pending.

Taking these MLAs into the Cabinet was violative of Article 164(1B) and 10th Schedule of the Constitution and it was also a mockery of democracy, the petitioner pointed out.

He urged the court to issue a writ of quo warranto to remove them from the Cabinet. AP Special Government Pleader Ramesh urged the bench to tag this PIL with the petition against Talasani Srinivas Yadav under similar grounds.
