A bill was introduced by the central government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday for setting up Petroleum University in Andhra Pradesh, the discussion for which would likely take place today.

The central government has decided to give a go ahead to the Petroleum University in order to fulfil the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

The University will be set up in 200 acres at Antakapally village in Sabbavaram mandal in Visakhapatnam and for setting up the campus, Rs 655.46 crore is the estimation as per the Central government. The institute would pursue research and development in the fields like liquefied natural gas, biofuels and renewables.

Currently, the classes for Petroleum University are being held in the Andhra University.
