Inspecting the hospital on Thursday after lapse of one month following crisis that erupted due to power outage that claimed nearly 20 infant deaths, the Minister was totally dissatisfied with the maintenance and upkeep of surgical wards. He also pointed at various lacunae in the hospital.

Accusing doctors of gross negligence in extending treatment to poor and deprived classes, the Minister said severe action would be taken if doctors found writing branded company medicines. He directed them to write only generic medicines which are available at affordable prices in the general medical shops.

To contain the menace of absentee doctors, the Minister said biometric attendance system would be implemented strictly and the Chief Minister himself would monitor it. Irked over the presence of pigs, rats, donkeys, dogs and other animals in and surroundings of maternity ward, the Minister took Hospital Superintendent Dr J Veeraswarmi to task and told him that for his negligence, the entire health ministry was being blamed.

He warned the superintendent to rectify the irregularities in the hospital and report the complaints to health secretary and director general of health affairs immediately. He said the government was thinking of involving civic authorities in maintaining upkeep of hospital including water supply and drainage system management.

Toning up the electrical systems, the minister assured that underground cabling is being done to prevent frequent power outage at Kurnool government general hospital. The minister also assured that better medicare would be provided to public. Earlier, he inaugurated a dialysis unit which was located at super specialty ward.

The Minister also laid foundation stone for the construction of OPD block at Nandyal general hospital. The OPD block would be constructed a cost of Rs 5.5 crore. He also visited Midthur mandal headquarters where he inaugurated a 30 bedded hospital. He said 144 doctors would be recruited soon.

Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya, Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy, Medical College Principal Dr GV Ram Prasad, General Hospital Superintendent Dr J Veera Swamy and other departmental heads were also present.
