  • Tirupati MP assures to raise the issue in the Parliament

The MLA warned that he would launch hunger strike in front of the thermal power plant if the management fails to take measures to reduce pollution levels. Kakani said that agricultural scientists of Acharya NG Ranga University have confirmed fly ash being discharged from thermal plants is having adverse impact on paddy crops.

He slammed the management for not controlling pollution released from their units despite making several appeals. The YSRCP leader faulted the company for not complying with the norms to reduce pollution.

Kakani also demanded the management to provide details of employment to local youth. He stated that the district administration yet to rehabilitate displaced of Mandapam, Varakavipudi, Anantapuram, and Pynapuram villages. No compensation was paid to the farmers, who gave their fertile lands for setting up power plant, he lamented.

He asked power plant management to release a white paper on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. He alleged the company provided employment to the people, who had not provided lands for the plant. The MLA slammed the management for not conducting skill development training for the local jobless youth.

Kakani invited Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy to take part in the protest against the power plant if he had not received any benefits from the management. Varaprasad Rao assured villagers of raising the issue in the Parliament. The MP also demanded the Pollution Control Board authorities to take action against the thermal power plants which are violating norms.
