Ongole: Gram Nyayalay Act, which was passed in 2009 should be implemented at least now and establish village-level courts to reduce the burden on existing court system, demanded Pravin Patel, the national convener for Forum for Fast Justice.

Speaking at the state-level convention on ‘Need for the Judicial Reforms’ organised by the Prakasam Society for Fast Justice, the speakers opined that the existing legal system should immediately be reformed to increase the faith in the common man. They listed out the reforms like increasing number of judges, courts and fast disposal of cases as part of reforms.

T Aruna, President of AP Mahila Abhyudaya Mahila Sangham, said, “We require regional benches of Supreme Courts to save time in adjournments and final judgments. The government should provide infrastructure to the courts to dispose of pending cases as early as possible.”

Tammisetty Ramadevi, member of the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission, said, “We know the reforms should be brought in legal system only when we know the law. As the member of Women’s Commission I am witnessing an increased number of domestic violence cases. There should be specific method processing the complaints in cases of couple with and without children to give a second chance to their life.”

K Kishore Kumar, president of the Prakaksam Society of Fast Justice said, “With the experience of closely working with issues related to children and women issues, we were shocked to know that there are 362 cases registered under POCSO Act in Prakasam district since its introduction on 2012. But there are only two or three cases where the judgment is given till now. If the justice is delayed, it is definitely justice is denied in this case of children and women faced atrocities under POCSO act.”
