Pithapuram: Taking a serious exception to police guarding their homes and keeping a strict vigil on them, Kapu Joint Action Committee leaders wondered why they were being treated as terrorists or anti-social elements.

Addressing media here on Sunday, one of the leaders, Gunda Venkata Ramana, said that the Kapu-JAC leaders sought to know the rationale behind the police vigil on their homes at a time when Kapu leader Mudragada was about to embark on a ‘padayatra’ on July 26 to press Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to implement his assurance to the Kapus.

They sought to know under which law it was laid down that a permission has to be obtained for those who wanted to undertake a padayatra in a peaceful manner. It was ridiculous on the part of the government to suppress the movement by filing bind-over cases, keeping a vigil and through police patrolling, they pointed out.

A group of 250 police conducted a parade in the town only to provoke the Kapu leaders and activists, they alleged. They made it clear that Mudragada would undertake the padayatra come what may, they said, without mincing words.
JAC leaders Balipalli Rambabu, Gopu Atchuta Ramaiah and Kumpatla Dorababu were present on the occasion.
