The CPI cadre staged a dharna at the Collectorate here on Wednesday and court arrested as part of the jail bharo call. Heavy security was in place at the Collectorate to prevent untoward incidents. Addressing the workers, Rama Naidu alleged that the TDP government has failed to protect the interests of the farmers, weaker sections and Dalits.
He demanded that the government should implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan and Koneru Ranga Rao panels. The state government should waive farm loans and to clear outstanding input subsidy, he added and said that the government should complete irrigation projects on priority basis by allocating sufficient funds.
CPI city secretary V Nagarajan alleged that the TDP government has failed to provide drinking water to Chittoor city. He ridiculed Chittoor Municipal Corporation for not resuming drinking water supply through hired tankers to supply water for city residents. The CPI leader demanded that the Collector should here the plight of the farmers.
Chittoor Farmers Association president Venkatachalam Naidu said that the government should reopen cooperative sick units. The police arrested the CPI leaders and shifted them II Town police station and later released on personal surety.
