Pithapuram: Following the serial deaths of cows in Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA) at Kakinada, district collector Kartikeya Mishra directed the officials to send the cows from SPCA to temples for their protection. Subsequently, about 200 cows have been sent to Annavaram Temple. The remaining cows will be sent to cow protection centre at Chendurthi.

According to Annavaram Temple assistant executive officer MKTNV Prasad, a shed was already set up at the allocated 1.82 acre space in Chendurthi. “Electrification has been completed. Borewells were sunk. Only laying of roads is under progress. The cows will be brought to the shed shortly,” he added.

“Ten workers have been appointed to look after the cows. Fodder will be sent from the Annavaram Temple and a 180-acre hillock has been allocated for cattle grazing. The expenditure for feeding the cows would be about Rs 6 lakh per month,” said the AEO.
