Rajamahendravaram: Minister for Tribal Welfare Nakka Ananda Babu distributed compensation cheques worth Rs 5 lakh to the family members of deceased of Chaparai village in Agency area, at a meeting in Rampachodavaram on Wednesday.
It should be recalled that as many as 16 tribals of the village died of water contamination.

Later, addressing the gathering the minister said that the government was giving priority for the wellbeing of tribals and directed ITDAs to provide necessary facilities like road connectivity and communication systems immediately.
An amount of Rs 2 lakh was given to five self-help groups of Chaparai village.

It was decided to lay 8,000 km of roads in the Agency areas of the state. Directives were issued to ITDA project officer to provide protected drinking water in all tribal habitations immediately along with necessary medical aid.

ITDA project officer AS Dinesh Kumar said special officers were appointed to all 635 villages in the Agency area for supervision of various medical and development activities. As many as 100 para medical staff were appointed on contract basis in the Agency area.MLA Vanthala Rajeswari, revenue divisional officer ASR Murthi and others were present.
