Kakinada: Life in Kirlampudi came to a standstill, with police taking control of the village, in a bid to foil udragada.Padmanabham’s padayatra and control incidents of violence, on Wednesday.

The police force manned all important junctions and roads that lead to other places in the district were blocked. Siddhantam bridge and Ravulapalem bridge (jonnada bridge) were also blocked to prevent supporters reaching Mudragada’s house.

Prominent Kapu leaders were taken into house arrest. Despite the police crackdown, Kapu leaders staged protests in Amalapuram and raised slogans against Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Tense scenes were the order of the day at Kothapeta as protesters often argued with police as why the roads leading to Kirlampudi were blocked. Angry protesters even squatted on the roads.

With Kirlampudi in the grip of police, all shops and business centres were closed. Even emergency services like medical shops, shut their door fearing breakout of violence. People suffered with curfew like situation.

Sources in police department said that strict measures were adopted taking Tuni Arson into consideration. They took every preventive measure to suppress the agitation. Autos and rickshaw are also stopped from entering Kirlampudi. Despite police foiling the padayatra situation remains tense in the village
