Tirupati: The memorial built as a tribute to the farmers, who died in Yerpedu mishap on April 21, is ready for inauguration. In a fight against sand mafia, 12 people of the village were killed in the lorry accident before Yerpedu Police Station. The farmers went there to protest against the illegal sand mining.

Another 15 persons of the village were injured. The villagers could not come out of the grief for a long time as the people of the village knows each other so intimately as they live in a village of three streets.

The youth of the village came out with the idea of constructing a memorial which would be a fitting tribute to the farmers, who lost their lives for the sake of village. Built at a height of 30 feet, it was located at the right side of the village entrance. It was built in round shape with a statue of a farmer placed on top of it.

Whoever comes to the village cannot enter without seeing the memorial and remembering the sacrifice made by the farmers. The names of all those died in the unfortunate incident were inscribed on the memorial.

The memorial was ready for inauguration. The villagers were planning to invite Minister Nara Lokesh to inaugurate it. It may be recalled that Lokesh visited the village the very next day of the tragic incident and assured the people that he will stand by them and extend all cooperation.
