Student stages his kidnap to extract money from parents

20-year-old Industrial Training Institute (ITI) student from Visakhapatnam, G Manikanta who went missing on Monday and was abducted ended up being all staged.

Police have tracked down the student and the place where the abduction phone calls were made. For now, the student has been taken into custody but an official confirmation in this regard is yet to be made.

Manikanta's family lodged a complaint after he didn't return from college on Monday. The next day, his sister got the kidnappers call demanding a ransom of Rs 15 lakh.

Police suspect that Manikanta had staged his own kidnap in order to extort money from his parents and his friends had pretended to be the kidnappers.
