Amaravati: The stance of BJP national leadership on delimitation of assembly segments by not agreeing to enhance the number of seats will pose a challenge not only to Telugu Desam but also to BJP state leadership it seems. This is because several leaders from various parties including Congress joined the BJP after the state bifurcation.

Majority of these leaders have pinned their hopes to get more seats in next assembly election if alliance is continued with Telugu Desam. If the number of seats is not increased how the BJP will get more Assembly seats under the alliance enquire both party leaders in their internal discussions. They want to highlight the issue before the national leadership.

According to BJP leadership nearly 25 leaders from other parties are expecting party tickets to contest in the next assembly elections. The leaders like Kavuri Sambasiva Rao and Kanna Laxminarayana are also in the list of ticket aspirants. But previously Telugu Desam contested in those constituencies and its leaders are now representing as legislators.

How the leaders in BJP would get seats is a million dollars question said one senior leader of Telugu Desam on condition of anonymity. He said that it is a loss not only to Telugu Desam but also to BJP.

He said that they would bring the issue to state BJP leadership’s notice for forwarding the same to national leadership.

Telugu Desam cannot give additional seats to BJP under seat sharing, if seats number is not increased even if there is an alliance between two parties, he added. Senior BJP leader M Venkatappiah of Guntur
district has already sent his view to party leadership requesting them to enhance Assembly seats.
