Govt to spend Rupees 350 crore on Logistics varsit

Vijayawada: Minister for law and justice, youth services and sports, skill development, unemployment benefits Kollu Ravindra on Friday said that the state government would establish Logistic University at Kakinada and the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was very interest on setting up the varsity. He said that the state government had proposed to spend about Rs.350 crore for the institution.

Ravindra inaugurated the two-day University Grants Commission (UGC)-sponsored national seminar on Logistic and Supply Chain Management at Kakaraparthi Bhava Narayana (KBN) college which is being organised by Krishna University and KBN College Commerce Management and Logistic department on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the state government had allotted land for the Logistic University in Kakinada and establishment process was going on. He suggested that universities and colleges promote logistic and supply chain management though the state government was also giving top priority to logistics.

Stating that Vijayawada city was turning into a logistics hub, he said that would provide huge job opportunities for those who had skills and talent. The efforts by the state government to create rail, road, waterway and air connectivity throughout the state would give a further fillip to the sector, he hoped. The minister said there was huge potential for development of the ports in the state since AP has 980 km long coast, he added.

Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati airports are developing as international airports operation of international flights was also catching up, he said and added that with the logistics hub, warehousing and assembling units would provide more jobs to youth.

Ravindra said the state government had been giving skill development training to unemployed youth through Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC). The aim of the government was to increase income of every family by utilising more opportunities and resources, he said.

Later, KBN college management felicitated the minister. Krishna University Professor Jai Sankar delivered the keynote address. KBN College president U Sambasiva Rao, secretary and correspondent S V S N Ranjith Kumar, treasurer Gupta, principal Dr V Narayana Rao, Navata transport AGM V Nagaraju and others participated in the programme.
