Vijayawada: The city police rescued 54 children, who were neglected by parents, missing and orphans from public places like bus station, railway station, hotels, markets and complexes here on Friday as part of Centrally sponsored ‘Operation Muskaan’ programme.

A girl was among the rescued kids. Out of total rescued children 42 belongs to AP, four each from Telangana and Rajasthan, one each from Bihar and Karnataka and two children hailed from Gujarat.

City Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang interacted with the children and enquired about their welfare. He advised them to be with parents and study well to come up in life.

Joint Commissioner of Police BV Ramana Kumar, DCP Kanti Rana Tata, officials of child welfare organisation, representatives of voluntary organisations were present.
