Vijayawada: Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers Organisation (FAPTO) and Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organisation (JACTO) and other teachers’ union leaders felicitated Vice-President nominee M Venkaiah Naidu at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Saturday.
Teachers union leaders expressed their gratitude for his initiative to get the Unified Service Rule (USR) approved by the President of India.
Addressing teachers’ union leaders, Venkaiah Naidu said he felt emotional when the BJP high command announced his name for the post of Vice-President and said that he would be no more a BJP leader henceforth. He also said that he wanted to be a part of the development reforms and activities under the Modi regime for some more time.
He wished to see Modi as PM in the next 2019 elections and then retire from the active politics as he would be 70 by then and wanted to give room for other BJP leaders. Naidu said that he wanted to come back to his home town and do social service through Swarna Bharathi Trust. But the party has given more responsibility by nominating him as the Vice-President candidate.
He further said that HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari met him in his Delhi office and discussed about the USR and he helped to get the President's nod for the Unified Service Rules. He expressed his happiness that about 3.5 lakh teachers would be benefited under the USR.
Presiding over the function, Civil Supplies Minister P Pulla Rao said the support of Venkaiah Naidu was admirable in getting the special package to the State and said that 4,23,000 houses were sanctioned to the poor in the state under his tenure.
Health Minister K Srinivas assured the aided school teachers will be given health cards with all benefits like other government teachers. MP K Hari Babu, and teachers’ union leaders participated in the felicitation programme.
