Vice Chancellor recalls Andhra University’s rapid strides

The 83rd and 84th combined convocation of Andhra University took place at Dr Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy Utsavarangam (convocation theatre) on the varsity campus in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Visakhapatnam: The 83rd and 84th combined convocation of Andhra University took place at Dr Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy Utsavarangam (convocation theatre) on the varsity campus in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Nalanda University Chancellor Dr Vijay Panduranga Bhatkar was the chief guest at the convocation. Andhra University conferred him with the honorary degree of Doctor of Science for his contributions in the field.

In his convocation address, Dr Vijay Panduranga Bhatkar said for the inclusive development of the country, 6.4 lakh villages and the farmers living there must not be left alone.

The knowledge produced in the universities should be used for taking the villages on the developmental path, he added.
Giving his thoughts on population proliferation in the country,

he said,”A large population can be a great burden for a nation facing many challenges. I look at this challenge as a great opportunity of unleashing 135 crore minds and aspirations. I am optimistic about the country because of its young population who are vibrant and full of hope.”

While giving the Vice-Chancellor’s report, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao shared the important events and developments that took strides on the campus in the recent past.

He recalled that during NAAC Accreditation, Andhra University occupied the 2nd best position among the state universities with a CGPA of 3.6 on 4.0 scale with A grade (Presently A +).

In the best thesis category, 16 medals and 11 research prizes were awarded. PhDs to 856 scholars and M Phil to 50 students were handed over. The prizes and medals were distributed to 255 students of UG and PG courses.

It may be recalled that the varsity faculty members numbering 378 permanent, 349 adhoc and temporary have published 1,652 research papers in national and international peer reviewed journals besides 48 books.

Separate screens were set up outside the hall for the attendees of the event besides live streaming of the convocation on YouTube.
