Amaravati: The experts of various walks of life opined the Communist Parties have played a key role by providing infrastructure as part of the city development.

Sharing their views on the recent attack and counter attack between Minister Nara Lokesh and leaders of Left parties by accusing each other on the city development is now a hot topic in city politics.

IT Minister Nara Lokesh Babu blows the lid off the controversies over the alleged adverse role in development of the city. Speaking at a party meeting, Lokesh dubbed the Communists anti-development, unleashing divergent perceptions over the concept of development. Vijayawada was once a bastion for the Communists and the Comrades are blamed for turning the city a sanctuary for gangsters.

There is an argument from the intelligentsia from the non-Left schools of thought that the city development took a backseat for want of security for business and industry captains from the warlords.

In Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s perception, development means city beautification marked by promotion of tourism on the bunds of the Krishna river, attracting investors from overseas such as China for building mega projects such as City Square in place of Swaraj Maidan and a floatel on the Krishna River, recreation and entertainment projects.

Left thinkers contend that the development model pitch forked by Naidu is meant to benefit the rich only. The concept of development is meaningless when it fails to bring about a qualitative change in the lifestyle of the poor and the common man. Patibandla Srinivas

In this backdrop, experts in various fields- C Raghavachari, Dr Samaram, Karnati Rammohan Rao and Samala Ramesh Babu- shared their views with The Hans India. Majority of them agreed that the Left parties could provide basic amenities accordingly for the requirement of the poor and middle-class.
