Visakhapatnam: NDA’s vice presidential candidate M Venkaiah Naidu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi put a huge burden on him to carry a message to the Indian people that the government is being run by people who represent the lowest strata of the society.

Addressing at the Atmeya Sabha held in his honor here on Sunday evening, Venkaiah Naidu said a Dalit has been made president of India, Modi himself represents a poor section and him self a farmer’s son.

``Modi told me that he was being made vice president to carry this message forward,’’ he said.He said though he was feeling bad about leaving the party, he had no regrets since he can render more service to the people across the country.

Recalling his links with the Visakhapatnam city, Naidu said Andhra University shaped his personality and made him a leader. The students days gave him opportunity to interact with senior RSS leaders who nurtured great values.

``It is these values which made me a leader. I went to Visakhapatnam jail during emergency but staying in jail I could foil a Congress meeting which wanted to introduce San jay Gandhi to Andhra people,’’ Naidu said.He said his short tenure as a union minister gave him to visit 623 districts in the country and meet wide range of people. Local MP Dr K Haribabu, MLAs and a large number of party workers were present in the meeting.
