Visakhapatnam: The north sub-division police arrested former tahsildar BTV Rama Rao on charges of land grabbing, documents tampering and corruption, here on Monday.
After cases were registered against him, Rama Rao disappeared from the city. Rama Rao misusing his official position helped private individuals to grab 150 acres of Manasas Trust land which come under Endowments department and left over land of PVG Raju, father of P Ashok Gajapathi Raju in Chippada and Annavaram villages of Bhimili mandal.
Investigation also revealed that he grabbed 150 acres in the same two villages and collected huge amounts of money for issuing pattadar passbooks.
He got 1.5 acres of land registered in his father-in-law Ponnada Sundara Sambasiva Rao in Annavaram village, which is worth Rs 50 lakh in the market. He never paid money for the land. Rama Rao also transferred government land in the name of private persons without registration causing revenue loss to the government.
