Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner J Nivas directed the VMC officials to increase sterilisation of dogs to check their menace in the city.

The Commissioner along with the officials inspected the operation theatre arranged for dogs at Ajit Singh Nagar on Monday and discussed the measures to be taken to check growing dogs menace. The officials said they were conducting 35 to 40 sterilisation operations per day.

Responding to it, the Commissioner said the number of operations to be increased to check the growing dogs’ population. He suggested the officials to install more kennels to keep the stray dogs. Citizens are facing many problems with the stray dogs, which are attacking people particularly during the nights.

Elderly people and children are panicked with dog attacks taking place in almost all colonies of the city. Children are falling prey to dog bite incidents in some localities.

The Commissioner suggested separate kennels for pregnant dogs, allergy and rabbis affected dogs. Nivas also inspected the garbage dumping yard and enquired the working condition of weighing machine at transfer station in Ajit Singh Nagar. He verified the number of trips of dumper blazers.

He also visited Bhavani ghat and inspected the toilets, water, lighting and cleaning facilities. VMC Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Dr Sridhar, Executive Engineers J Srinivasa Rao, K Koteswara Rao and Health Officer Dr Babu Srinivas accompanied him.
