He held a meeting with Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, who was accompanied by a team from Harvard Medical School, who would research on Uddanam kidney diseases, at Secretariat in Velagapudi on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the government was taking measures to establish a kidney diseases research centre at Srikakulam, in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). “It will be a 50-50 venture. As part of our share we are ready to sanction Rs 15 crore for three years. We are also ready to establish an international-level kidney disease research centre at Uddanam with public private partnership,” he revealed.

“The government has taken several measures for providing medical assistance including doling out a pension of Rs 2,500 per month for kidney patients. We will find a permanent solution to the Uddanam problem after taking into consideration the suggestions given by Harvard medical team,” he informed.

Naidu stated that the government was ready to conduct an international seminar on kidney problems, to take suggestions from the international medical experts.

Responding to the suggestion of Pawan Kalyan, who asked the government to appoint 900 unemployed youth belonging to Uddanam, who completed medical courses, in finding a solution to the kidney problems, Chief Minister asked the medical department to collect the information of those unemployed youth and prepare a report for their recruitment.

He also agreed to adopt the children, who lost their parents due to renal failure. When Pawan suggested to give more priority to primary health sector, the Chief Minister responded positively and agreed to allocate more funds, if needed.

Pawan Kalyan also came forward to work with the government for finding a permanent solution for Uddanam kidney problem.
“The government is prepared to take all preventive measures, besides finding a permanent solution to the problem.

Shortage of nephrologists in the country has become a major problem for providing best medical care for the kidney patients, Naidu observed. He appealed the Harvard team to come out with proposals on co-operating with the government on the issue.
