WhatsApp, WiFi save woman trapped in Saudi Arabia

Visakhapatnam: A housewife, who was trapped in Saudi Arabia, returned after three months ordeal revealed that WhatsApp and WiFi saved her.

G Pravina, a resident of Peda Gantyada, told reporters on Monday that she paid an agent in Hyderabad and flew to Saudi Arabia in November last year, where her passport and visa were snatched by the local agent.

She was employed in house and things were going on smoothly. In April this year, her employer shifted to her mother’s house, where her torture began.

“I was beaten daily and tortured by employer for silly reasons and was given food only once in a day. Throughout the day I was locked in a room and when they need some work, they opened the door,” she said.

Pravina said that the owner of the house is a 60-year old woman and has six daughters and four sons. Harassment became severe, when she requested for 15 days leave to attend her father’s funeral.

“My family members called me and informed that my father has expired. I requested them for leave promising to return on time. But they didn’t believe me and harassed me saying that I am telling lies to escape from house,” Pravina revealed.

She said that they also warned her that if she escaped from the house, they would kill her branding as a thief. With these threats, she lost hope of returning home.

However, WiFi in the house and the little knowledge she had in using WhatsApp helped her send a video to her husband.
“The password for WiFi was written on the wall and I lost no time in using it and send my ordeal to my family members and my husband,” she said.

Based on the video, her husband lodged a complaint with the police and Indian government reacted and brought
her home.
