‘Breast milk is like vaccine to newborn’

Tirupati: The Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC) and Sri Padmavathi Nursing College inaugurated the breast-feeding week in Tirupati on Tuesday. They organised a rally in the city to bring awareness on the importance of mother’s milk.

Speaking on the occasion, SVMC principal Dr NV Ramanaiah said the breast milk works as the first vaccination for the child and protects them from various allergies and the attachment between the mother and child will be strengthened through breast-feeding.

Child can digest mother’s milk easily and infant mortality rate can be reduced, he stated. Dr Sreenivasulu Reddy, Dr Ashok Kumar Reddy, Dr Janardhan Raju, Dr Chandra Sekhar, Dr Sunitha and Dr Sankar Reddy have
participated.
