Visakhapatnam: The Special Investigation Team, which is probing into tampering of records of government land, intensified its probe to complete the process at the earliest.

The team on Tuesday visited Meditech special zone lands at Gajuwaka, Greenland in Marripalem and some government lands in Maddilapalem. The team also invited suggestions and information from the public on encroachment of government lands and tampering of documents.

Sources in the government said the SIT has targeted revenue staff and might suggest action against a dozen of lower-rung officials and three tahsildars. The police already arrested former tahsildar of Bhimili BTV Rama Rao and was produced in the ACB Court to face corruption charges. He was also accused of tampering of Manasas Trust lands which come under endowments department.

“Much of the tampering has been done in Bhimili, Anandapuram and rural Visakhapatnam mandals and the revenue staff in these three areas played a major role. The SIT probe will reveal the extent of role played by the revenue staff,’’ said former retired officer.

Meanwhile, Collector Pravin Kumar held discussions with the officials of Simhachalam Devasthanam and Manasas Trust on the tampering of records of 150 acres, which led to arrest of former Bhimilli tahsildar BTV Rama Rao.
