Vijayawada: Fire broke out at lubricants manufacturing unit in Autonagar here on Wednesday. Raw materials and other property worth Rs 10 lakh was gutted in the mishap. Fire broke out due to an electric short circuit.

The fire services staff rushed to the spot and controlled the fire in three hours. As many as six fire tenders were pressed into service. According to Auto Nagar fire station officer K Srinivasa Rao, fire broke out at Atma Lubricants in Auto Nagar destroying raw material and other equipment, including machinery, in the first floor of the building. Watchman had noticed the smoke and alerted the owners of the company.

On receiving information, the fire department immediately dispatched two vehicles from Auto Nagar station. Two from Vijayawada main station one each from Ajit Singh Nagar and Kothapet. Six vehicles controlled the fire in three hours and saved the property from further loss, said the station fire officer.

Luckily, the fire did not spread to the godown located adjacent to the lubricants company. Poor quality of wiring and electrical work was the reason for the short circuit, said K Srinivasa Rao. Nearly 20 workers were working in the company but none of them was present at the time of accident.
