He attended a review meeting with several department officials on the welfare schemes implementation. Later speaking to the media at the Circuit House, here on Thursday evening, he said in no uncertain terms that no community from upper castes should be included in reservation lists.

Claiming that 50 per cent cap on the reservations was just the opinion of the Supreme Court and not a law, he said the governments could raise the bar of the present reservations by hiking another 25 per cent to allot quotas for the upper castes by adopting creamy layer concept.

The Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment requested Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to promote inter-caste marriages in the state to end casteism.

“The couples, who go for inter-caste marriages should be rewarded with Rs 5 lakh by the state government as they were getting meagre Rs 50,000 now,” said Ramdas Athawale.

Reiterating his old demand of separating Vidarba from Maharashtra and providing it a status of separate state, he said that their Republic Party of India (A) is in support of small states demand but not for very small states like Gorkhaland.

Though the NDA government has been batting for granting constitutional status to Backward Commission, the Congress party was attempting to stall the passing of the bill in Rajya Sabha, he alleged.
