Chittoor: Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi (RRS) president K Venkata Subba Reddy demanded that the central government should create a separate state for Rayalaseema with 11 districts. He lamented that the Rayalaseema region is lagging in development due to discrimination of successive state governments. The RRS chief urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take an initiative to form Rayalaseema state with 11 districts.
The districts are Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool, Nellore, Prakasam and three districts Bellary, Kolar and Rayachur from Karnataka state and two districts Krishnagiri and Vellore from Tamil Nadu state.
Reddy said that the Prime Minister was instrumental in creation of smaller states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand. Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, the RRS leader said that he has sent a representation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to introduce the bill in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament for creation of Rayalaseema state.
He came down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for developing coastal districts for party’s political mileage. He lamented that Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments are showing discrimination towards Telugu speaking people in their states. About 70 per cent of people in three districts of Karnataka and two districts of
Tamil Nadu are Telugus, he added. He made an appeal to political leaders of the backward region to fight for Rayalaseema state. The RRS plenary would be held at NTR Function Hall in Tirupati on August 9.
