Guntur: The Central government has decided to develop the Guntur Mirchi Yard as a Model Mirchi Yard and introduce e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) system from September 1 from this year to eliminate middlemen in the chilli purchase and get a better price to the farmers.

Highlights:

  • e-National Agriculture Market System to be introduced from Sept 1
  • Farmers can sell chillies anywhere in the country for a better price

If this system is introduced, the famer can sell their stock of chillies anywhere in the country from the Guntur Mirchi Yard online to be set up at the market yard. If the farmers get a better price, they would be benefitted. Necessary arrangements would be made at the market yard to sell the chilli stocks online.

As soon as the farmers sell the chilli stock in other states, the buyer has to make the payment online. The farmers would receive their payments within a week.

At present, traders are offering lower price to the chilli stocks in the chilli yard and they are making fast a buck. As a result, the farmers are incurring heavy losses. The farmers, who suffered losses, are committing suicides. To introduce e-NAM system,

the Central government appointed Ganga Raju as a nodal officer, who will visit the Guntur Mirchi Yard on Monday, and conduct the meeting with the officials and explain about the new system. He will explain about the software to be used to implement the system.

The Spices Board has already started uploading details of the chilli farmers and what variety they have produced on the website. The traders, who see the website, will directly interact with the farmers and purchase chillies. Similarly, E NAM system is introduced, it will be more benefit to the farmers.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, Guntur Mirchi Yard Chairman Manna Subba Rao, said: “The system is useful to the farmers. To maintain transparency in the chilli purchase and to make online payments to the farmers. Middlemen will be eliminated in the chilli purchase. I sought the cooperation of the traders to introduce the new system.”

Guntur Mirchi Yard secretary T Diwakar, said” “If the new system is introduced the farmers may sell their produce from any mirchi yard in the country. It will increase competition in the market.”
